OUR KUPUNA NEED YOUR HELP. |
With the aging population in Hawaii, compounded by the economic downturn, immediate action is needed to prevent senior hunger, malnutrition and more costly institutionalization. In these trying times, we need you to help now more than ever.
Join the March for Meals on March 24th from Honolulu Hale at 10:00 AM. Meet us at the State Capitol at 11:00 AM. Or join us virtually by pledging your support online.
Our goals: to generate support to protect Kupuna Care services this year and build a movement to end senior hunger by 2020.
We believe that ending senior hunger is possible--but only when we stand together. Will you join us?
Kupuna Care is a state-funded, county-administered program that provides basic services to the elderly so they can live at home. Services include adult day care, personal care, help with chores, home-delivered meals and transportation assistance. The program helps elderly residents whose modest retirement incomes leave little after the rent, food and medical bills are paid.
March for Meals is an annual national event promoted locally by meals on wheels programs across the country. The campaign takes place in March to commemorate the law enacted to include much needed local senior meal programs in the Older Americans Act.
Mayors for Meals is a component of March for Meals that utilizes the involvement of local mayors. We greatly appreciate Mayor Mufi Hannemann’s support of this initiative over the years.
